Dan Larimer Reveals EOS Network Memory Scaling Solution Details
Dan Larimer, CTO at Block. One, has revealed an upcoming update to the EOS.IO protocol that will help alleviate network resource constraints. Changes to the cryptocurrency repository were made 3 days ago, but Larimer confirmed them only today.
The new optimization solution is called DISK and will be launched in the coming weeks. It will allow uploading some of the data from the main blockchain into a separate database. This, in turn, will reduce the load on smart contracts and save RAM resources..
DISK will use RocksDB databases, which are more advanced than LevelDB, which are usually integrated into blockchain systems. Mostly this will concern data that does not require frequent calls or updates, writes Larimer.
According to him, the alpha launch of DISK will be supported by RAM resources, and node operators will be given the opportunity to update voluntarily. A full release is expected within a few months. As Larimer notes, in this way EOS can «scale far beyond RAM».
Coinbase previously limited EOS operations, citing network performance issues.
