Initially, the company intends to implement support for Dash, Ethereum, Litecoin, Stellar and XRP. As part of the pilot program, Alipay and WeChat Pay will also be added to existing payment methods by the end of August..
“Cash is a model that has stalled,” said A1's head of business promotion, Markus Schreiber. "We will test the level of demand and adoption of digital currency in Austria during pilot operations at A1 branches.".
At the first stage, operations with cryptocurrencies are available in seven service offices. The company will partner with multiple banking providers to avoid the risks associated with the high volatility of digital money.
A1 says new payment options target not only locals but tourists as well.
